Minimum Eligibility Criteria for Honours in B.A. / B.Sc. / B.Com. / BBA and M.Com.
General Instructions for All Courses
- A candidate who has passed the Higher Secondary (10+2) or its equivalent Examination is eligible to seek admission to the 1st year of the 3-year B.A/ B.Sc/ B.Com/ BBA (Honours), Course of Studies provided he/she has also passed in English having full marks not being less than 100 and fulfills the conditions given below.
- No candidate shall be allowed admission after a lapse of more than 3 years from the year of passing the previous qualifying examination or discontinuation of recognized regular Course of Studies after passing the previous qualifying examination. The year of admission shall not be taken into account while calculating three years from the year of passing the previous qualifying Examination. For Academic Year 2014-15, a candidate should have passed not before March, 2011 i.e. Academic Year 2010-11.
- Candidates who have passed the Higher Secondary (10+2) Examination or its equivalent from CBSE, CISCE (ISC), WBCHSE (WB Board) and National Institute of Open Schooling need not submit the Migration Certificate for getting Registration under Calcutta University.
- Candidates belonging to the Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe Community taking up Honours Course of Study must have obtained a minimum of 40% marks in the aggregate or 40% marks in the subject or related subject at the previous qualifying examination, as the case may be. (Holders of valid certificate from State of West Bengal only).
- Aggregate marks shall be calculated by adding the marks in top-four subjects in order of marks secured by a candidate. However, marks in compulsory Environmental Education/ Studies shall not be taken into account for calculation of aggregate marks. If the subject "Environmental Science" is studied as an elective subject of 100 marks, it may be taken into account for the purpose of determining the aggregate marks.
- In case of non-receipt of minimum valid applications in a particular subject / discipline the college reserves the right to commence/ hold classes in that particular subject / discipline.

B.Com. (Honours)
A candidate taking up Honours Course in a subject must have obtained a minimum of 50% marks in the aggregate and 45% marks in the subject or related subject at the previous qualifying examination.OR
55% marks in the subject or related subject at the previous qualifying examination.
Related Subjects (any one) (B.Com Honours)
Accountancy, Business Economics including Business Mathematics, Business Organization, Mathematics, Business Mathematics, Economics, Statistics, Business Studies, Office and Secretarial Practice, Financial Accounting, Elements of Cost Accountancy & Auditing, Book Keeping, Commerce, Cost Accountancy & Principle of Management. -
B.A. (Honours)
A candidate taking up Honours Course in a subject must have obtained a minimum of 50% marks in the aggregate and 45% marks in the Honours subject at the previous qualifying examination.OR
55% marks in the Honours subject at the previous qualifying examination.
Note : For B.A. English (H) : Apart from above criteria, Admission test will be taken. -
B.Sc. (Honours)
A candidate taking up Honours Course in a subject must have obtained a minimum of 50% marks in the aggregate and 45% marks in the Honours subject at the previous qualifying examination.OR
55% marks in the Honours subject at the previous qualifying examination

BBA (Honours)
- A candidate must have obtained 55% marks in aggregate with Mathematics/ Business Mathematics in Class XII.

- M.Com. Minimum 2nd Division pass in B.Com. (Honours)
B.A. (Honours)
- Admission is strictly on the basis of merit cum interview.
- All admissions are subject to the approval of the Admission Committee.
- A candidate may be admitted to the undergraduate course of study after passing the Higher Secondary Examinations(plus 2) conducted by the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education or Equivalent Examination recognised by the University of Calcutta.
- Any candidate seeking admission in Honours. course must fulfil all the criteria laid down by the College from time to time over and above the criteria laid down by University of Calcutta.

Admission shall automatically stand cancelled on account of any of the following reasons :
- Any default in payment of fees and other dues.
- Failure to submit the necessary documents within the stipulated date and time.
- Submission of any incorrect information and / or non- approval of admission by University of Calcutta.
- Continual absence from class for one month from the date of commencement of class.
- Indiscipline or involvement in Ragging.
Admission Procedure
On-line Application for the following Honours Courses :- B.Com. (Accountancy)
- B.A. (English, Bengali, History, Political Science)
- B.Sc. (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Economics)
- BBA (Honours) merit cum GDPI by University of Calcutta experts.
Candidates will have to submit the application forms for admission through our website (www.thebges.edu.in). Refer to website for details.
Admission will be strictly on the basis of merit cum interview.
Merit list will be put up on the notice board of the College and displayed on the website.
Candidates selected as per merit list will be required to download application from website and submit on specified dates.
Students whose names appear in the merit list should follow the following procedure.
The process for downloading of admission form is as under :
- The admission form can be downloaded from the website only after paying the processing fee through Debit card or Credit card or depositing the fee at a designated bank and taking the code which will be uploaded.
- Students shall get a receipt for the processing fee with a code. At this level the print out of the form is not allowed.
- After the merit list has been uploaded by the college, students will have to pay one year fee at the designated bank which should be submitted to the office and will be accepted after verification of all original documents.
Copies of the following documents are to be submitted along with the Admission form :
- Four copies of stamp size photos, 1 copy pasted in the box provided.
- One stamp size photograph each of the father and the mother of the student.
- Two Copies of mark sheets of Madhyamik & Higher Secondary or equivalent examinations, attested by the Head of the Institution last attended.
- One copy of admit card of Madhyamik & HS or equivalent examinations(attested).
- Evidence of Date of Birth (one attested copy).
- Permission letter from University of Calcutta where required (must for Non-Indian Nationals).
- Blood Group.
Students who are included in the merit list for admission must complete the admission formalities by paying the fees and submitting the required documents, as per the time and schedule notified, failing which their claim for admission will stand forfeited.
Documents Required at the tine of Admission :
- Original mark sheet, along with two photo copies.
- Original School Leaving Certificate, along with a photo copy.
- Eligibility Certificate in the case of those passing an examination other than that conducted by the West Bengal, ISC, CBSE or any other National Board.
Other Admission Rules :
- All admissions are valid for one academic year only. A student who has qualified himself/ herself for admission to the next higher class will have to file a fresh application in the prescribed form and pay the full fee within the period notified.
- A student belonging to scheduled caste, scheduled tribe or other backward class must produce the Caste Certificate issued by the competent authority of the Government of West Bengal, failing which, their claim for admission will not be entertained under the specified category. In case, the students migrating from the other States/Boards claim admission on the basis of reserved categories, they may be considered only if they submit Caste Validating Certificate from the competent authority of the West Bengal State.
